The Shoulder unit at the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth was established in 1991 and is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and research of injuries and musculoskeletal conditions affecting the shoulder and elbow.
Founded by the late Mr Paul Calvert and Mr Roger Emery, the unit has a national and international reputation for the treatment of shoulder and elbow problems, including sports injuries and complex or revision procedures. The philosophy of the founders, which continues to be built upon, is of prompt access to specialist surgeons providing time and attention to patients in a centre with excellent facilities.
The team comprises 4 surgeons, specialist anaesthetists, physiotherapists and radiologists. The Shoulder unit at Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth can provide consultations, specialist imaging, physiotherapy and state of the art surgical facilities under one roof in a clean and pleasant environment in Central London .
The Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth is the third largest independent hospital in the United Kingdom which provides a full range of specialist services and is well known for its Shoulder Unit. John & Lizzie's as it is affectionately known, uses its profits to support its principal charity St. John's Hospice, which provides free palliative care for people living in the local community.
